Joma and the COE present the Spanish kit that our athletes will wear at the Olympic Games in Paris

For the Olympic Games, Spanish athletes will wear a kit that blends tradition with modernity. This style is reflected in high-performance fabrics inspired by the carnation, capturing the essence of Spanish culture with a contemporary touch and sustainability as the central axis.

Just a month and a half away from the Paris Olympic Games, Joma and the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) present the official collection that Spanish athletes will wear during this important event. This collaboration originated in 2015, when Joma signed the agreement to become the official supplier of the Spanish Olympic team’s clothing. Since then, the Spanish brand has dressed athletes in various international competitions, including the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020. The Paris Olympic Games will mark the third occasion in which Joma dresses the COE, reaffirming its commitment and support to Spanish sports.

The presentation at San Marcos Cultural Center.

The presentation event took place at the San Marcos Cultural Center, where Olympic athletes such as canoeists Marcus Cooper, Adrián del Río, and Paco Cubelos; judoka Niko Shera; taekwondo practitioners Adrián Vicente, Javier Pérez Polo, and Adriana Cerezo; gymnasts Inés Bergua, Patricia Pérez, Salma Solaun, Mireia Martínez, and Ana Arnau; tennis player Sara Sorribes; sailor Támara Echegoyen; and climber Alberto Ginés showcased the collection’s outfits before distinguished guests such as the president of Joma, Fructuoso López, the CEO of Joma Sport, Marina López, the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco, the president of the Higher Sports Council, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, and the mayor of Toledo, Carlos Velázquez.

José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), kicked off the event, highlighting the importance of the collaboration between the CSD and the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE). He emphasized that both entities are “destined to understand each other” and celebrated this “blessed fate” due to the ease and constructive solutions that always arise from their cooperation. Rodríguez Uribes also took the opportunity to thank Joma for their excellent work in creating the collection and their commitment to the Games and the athletes. Furthermore, he congratulated the COE for their wise decision to once again trust this Castilian-Manchegan brand, which has proven to be an example of “brand Spain” with a strong vocation and international presence over the years.

The new collection of the COE for the Olympic Games in Paris reinvents design in homage to the national colors. For the Olympic event, Spanish athletes will wear a kit that fuses tradition with modernity, classic with avant-garde, a style reflected on high-performance fabrics. The inspiration comes from the carnation, the iconic national flower that is part of the deeply rooted folklore in Spain. On the other hand, the colors of the flag, red and yellow, predominate, appearing on a wide variety of prints in gradient, with the carnation and other details.

All products made by Joma that make up the COE collection are equipped with the best technology in the sports market. As a brand increasingly committed to caring for the environment, Joma has used ecological fabrics throughout the collection such as recycled polyester, organic cotton, and techniques such as the application of dyes without chemical compounds. This has made it possible for us to label each product as “eco”, and they have even created special labels for the Podium collection that contain multiflor seeds inside.

Regarding technologies, the clothing incorporates technical fabrics, which aim to optimize comfort and freedom of movement. For example, some garments feature “cool feeling” fabric, which expels sweat and offers a feeling of freshness, in addition to other technologies such as laser-cut finishes, thermosealed seams, or breathable Micro-Mesh System panels. Secondly, Joma has personalized three high-end footwear models for the COE. The Flexys, their star Lifestyle model, are made with flexible and durable leather, and with a recycled rubber sole. Another example are the R.2000, the most comfortable and versatile running shoes from the brand thanks to the Fly Reactive midsole. Finally, the Storm Viper model provides the comfort underfoot so desired by elite athletes due to its Reactive Ball technology.

As Marina López mentioned, Joma is a company that is now present in more than 140 countries, collaborating with 11 committees and 20 federations in the Olympic Games. Nearly 15% of the athletes participating in Paris will wear their apparel, an unprecedented milestone for a Spanish brand. Joma has positioned itself in the top 5 leading brands in the global sports apparel industry, one of the most competitive markets. Despite its global success, the company remains rooted in the town where it was founded almost 60 years ago when Fructuoso López decided to start the business. “Effort, sacrifice, perseverance, and improvement are the values of sport that you have applied to your life and the passion with which you do it. How could we not follow you when you inspire us every day with the enthusiasm to take this company to the top?”.

The entire collection is focused on sustainability, covering everything from the design and production of the garments with recycled fabrics to the labels. It is divided into three lines: Parade, Podium, and Village. The jewel of the collection is the parade costumes, specifically designed for the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris. These garments stand out for their lightness and comfort, achieved through advanced technologies such as heat sealing to eliminate seams, laser cutting for finishes, die-cutting for ventilation, and “cool feeling” fabrics that reduce body temperature by 2°C.

Desfile line

The Desfile line includes a variety of garments that bring elegance to the collection. The men’s ensemble consists of long trousers, shirt, and blazer, as well as an alternative option with a jacket. For women, Joma has designed a spectacular pleated midi skirt with a gradient, contrasting belt, buttoned collar t-shirt, jacket, and bag. During the opening parade, Spanish Olympians will wear the Flexys model on their feet.

Premiación line

The Premiación line features a completely revamped design that combines contemporary sportswear with functionality. The tracksuit, made with “wrinkled effect” fabric, ensures that each garment is unique. This 3D effect is achieved through the application of ecological dye in dual color, without pesticides. By stretching the fabric in areas that require greater freedom of movement, the red turns into yellow. The entire set is made of 100% recycled polyester and includes openings for ventilation, along with the Micro-Mesh System technology for greater comfort in warm climates. The t-shirts, with different patterns for men and women, incorporate technical details such as heat-sealed closures, “cool feeling” fabric, and the VTS ventilation system, which uses laser-cut die-cuts to ensure breathability.

Villa Olímpica line

The uniformity of the Olympic Village is the most diverse in terms of garments, colors, and fabrics. Each delegation member will have more than forty pieces, including a raincoat, polo shirt, t-shirt, sweatshirt, long trousers, shorts, and swimsuit. The predominant colors are red and yellow, combined with the carnation design and elegant golden details. Within this uniformity, there is a more formal line for travel and official events, and a more comfortable one for the athletes’ stay in the Olympic Village.

As for the fabrics, this collection is also ecological, using recycled polyester and organic cotton with pesticide-free dyes. In addition, the expected weather for Paris during the Games has been taken into account, so breathable and lightweight fabrics have been used. For their stay in the Olympic Village, Joma has designed a special version of their most versatile, complete, and comfortable sneaker: the R.2000.

To conclude, on behalf of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Mr. Blanco closed the event by thanking Joma. “We are going to the Paris Games, and although we do not know what the outcome will be, the journey we have taken has undoubtedly been the best. The data, the numbers, the records, and the medals prove it.” In 1965, Joma began to dream, to imagine, to plan, and had the courage to advance and build the great company that is now a global reference. “It is a historic moment in which our athletes will wear the clothing of a leading company in the world of sports. So, for the athletes, for Joma, for Toledo, and for Spain.”
